Wanted: Your Sofa was a site specific project for Mullaharlin Park commissioned by Louth Local Authorities under the Dept. of Environment Heritage and Local Government’s Percent for Art Scheme.
Each household in Mullaharlin Park was invited to enter their living room sofa into the Wanted:Your Sofa competition. There were ten entries in total from which one sofa was selected. This sofa was then cast in bronze and located as a permanent artwork in the central green at Mullaharlin Park.
The work takes something from behind closed doors out into the open space. What was formerly for private and domestic use becomes available for public use. Cast in a material traditionally associated with art production, it brings the idea of permanence and monumentality, in addition to a kind of intrigue, to this ordinary everyday object.
